Library Board Minutes
November 9, 2015 - 4:30 pm
Members present: John Huisman, Wilma Bittinger, Kathy Benz, Cindy Lyon, Director Eva Gaydon and City Administrator Tim Ibisch.
Meeting called to order at 4:30 by President John H.
Minutes: September 2015 minutes were reviewed and approved on motion by Cindy L., second by Kathy B.
Bills: September/October expense report reviewed and approved on motion by Cindy L., second by Kathy B.
1) Eva's Director's report for October was shared with the board via email. For November, she reported that TDS is having problems cataloging books in a timely manner. A more efficient systems needs to be developed by TDS with input from all libraries in the region.
2) Friends of the Library had a successful book sale in September, raising $490.76, which was deposited into the SMIF fund.
3) FOL also received an ECFE Grant for $250 to be used for book bags for the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. Kiwanis will be asked to sharing some of their books for the program as well.
4) September 2015 Stats:
1) Tim pointed out that staff hours were trending too high for the 2015 budget so Eva and the staff have been working to decrease overages. Amanda Steinke has volunteered to run the teen reading program without receiving extra pay and Eva has re-arranged some staffing hours as well. A survey of number of patrons at various hours is being conducted to verify that the hours the library is open are appropriate to the community needs. Eva is also collecting comparable library hours and budgets from around the area to help with budget planning in the future.
