Library Board Minutes

December 9, 2013 - 4:30 pm


Members present: Sue Ellingsen, John Huisman, Lenny Clement, Doris Kessel, Kathleen Benz, Cindy Lyon, Wilma Bittinger, Director Eva Gaydon and City Administrator Kathy Bailey

November minutes were approved.

Director’s Report:

1.    Adult winter reading program runs from Jan 2 2014 to Feb 13, 2014

2.    Jan.22, Eva will teach another e-reader class through Community Ed.

3.    Traverse Des Sioux News

    1. A new automation system is being sent out to prospective vendors with 2015 as the tentative implementation date
    2. At the November Directors' meeting, a demo of Freegal music was presented.  This is an on-line subscription based music download site which Martin County is trying out now.
    3. Waseca/Le Sueur has a new library director.

Old Business:

  1. Eva presented the 2013 Writers’ Workshop expenses and compared them to 2012. Discussion on continuing the program was tabled until the January meeting.  
  2. SWOT brainstorming session from December was summarized and discussed.  Eva will ask Shelley Greiman to assess the library décor for possible improvement/restaging.  Other possible ideas for the future of the library were presented and discussed.  Eva will talk to Watonwan County Friends of the Library group for advice on forming one here in Blue Earth.  She will present more information at the January 2014 Library Board meeting.

Motion to adjourn was made at 5:20 and carried unanimously. Next meeting will be January 13, 2014
