Bills:  Approved on motion by Wilma, second by Kathleen

Director’s Report:

Eva shared a written Director’s Report with the board and the contents were discussed;

1.  The library was notified that they were chosen to be one of the 2013 World Book Night Givers.  April 23, we will participate by giving away copies of “The Language of Flowers” by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. The books will be provided by the World Book Night Organization.

2.   Eva has met with City Administrator Kathy Bailey to discuss the new federal health care legislation and the impact it will have on the library’s part-time employees.  The new law makes it necessary to strictly limit part time workers to 30 hours per week and the hours will have to be monitored weekly.  Overages in hours could become very costly to the city, so Eva had to make some adjustments to work schedules.

3.   Eva attended a contract delivery meeting at Traverse Des Sioux on March 8th.  Various contracts were reviewed and the list was narrowed down to two.  Questions arose about cost, fuel surcharge and possible alternatives to reduce costs.  At the present time, TDS pays approximately $60,000 per year. The lowest contract bid for the future was $137,952.00, not including fuel surcharge.  This new figure would increase the Blue Earth Library’s costs by $1792.87 plus the fuel surcharge.  Eva will continue to discuss the issues involved at the library directors’ meeting on Thursday of this week.

6.  February stats:      ILL-loaned-51, borrowed 47 items

                                    EBook checkouts – 143

                                    New library cards issued – 25

                                    Library items added – 98

                                    Feb. circulation – 2680 (not including rotation stops)

Old Business:

Writers’ Conference; Date of Sept. 28 was confirmed with Hope Methodist Church.  Frederick Blanch has said he would be willing to be one of the speakers.  Eva made up a tentative agenda for the conference, which included welcome/keynote at 9:30, one morning breakout session with a choice of topics to be announced, lunch and a second breakout session in the afternoon, ending at 3:45.  The same caterer will probably be used again and will also be asked to provide rolls and coffee for the opening/welcome time between 9:00 am and 10:15 am.

New Business:

Motion to adjourn was made at 4:58 and carried unanimously. Next meeting will be April 8, 2013.

Respectfully submitted,

Wilma Bittinger
