Blue Earth Community Library
Library Board Minutes
July 11, 2011, 4:25 pm
Members present: John Huisman, Sue Ellingsen, Wilma Bittinger and director Eva Gaydon.
Due to lack of quorum, an unofficial meeting of the board was called to order at 4:15 p.m. by John Huisman.
No motions could be made but the director’s report was given by Eva and those present agreed to accept Sue Ellingsen as a new board member. Other board members will be polled by email so that Sue’s membership on the board can be formally approved at the next City Council meeting.
Board members present did look over the bills for the previous month and Eva helped familiarize Sue with some of the items.
Eva reported on the Summer Reading Program. Tuesday, June 12, the Pint-sized Polka program will be presented as part of the summer program. June Sorenson from the Extension office has been presenting healthy eating tips and snacks during story time. The model car class that was part of last week’s summer reading program was one of the most popular of the entire summer. Model car kits were donated by a local model building group for each child signed up. Next week the program will have the children learning to make lefse, with the help of some volunteers.
Eva noted that board member Kathleen Benz helped Eva with the interviews to find a new library employee to replace Lorraine Hassing who retired. Amanda Stienke was chosen and has been working out well.
Eva continues to work with the libraries in the county for whom Blue Earth Community Library provides services. Since this is the first year that Blue Earth library is responsible for this service, a few issues have to be worked out but Eva is confident that everyone will adjust to the changes in time.
A new outdoor sign for the library is still in the planning stages. A portion of the money from the Steinberg bequest will be used for this purpose as soon as Eva finds a reliable sign company. She will be checking with United Hospital District to see who made their signage.
The library also received an annual donation from United Way in the amount of $1200.
Meeting adjourned at 4:45
